Neo Zed itself is free. The editor is AGPL-3.0 and every component the fork runs — cloud, worker, website — is open source.
AI features are bring-your-own-key. Configure an OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Mistral, xAI, OpenRouter, or Vercel AI Gateway endpoint in the editor's settings and Neo Zed will talk to it directly. You pay your provider. Neo Zed does not proxy or mark up inference.
Cloud features are optional. The fork operates a collaboration backend, release host, and extension catalog, but you can point the editor at your own instance if you prefer to self-host the whole stack.
When paid tiers for hosted collaboration or managed AI routing are introduced, they will be documented here before they ship. There is no hidden subscription waiting to be turned on.
