Is Neo Zed the same as Zed?
No. Neo Zed is a community fork of Zed. It shares a code lineage with upstream and rebases against new releases, but it runs on its own cloud and is not affiliated with Zed Industries.
Do I need an account to use the editor?
No. The editor works without signing in. An account is only required for collaboration, synced settings, and account-aware AI routing.
Does my Zed Industries account work on Neo Zed?
No. Neo Zed issues its own accounts through GitHub sign-in. Your Zed Industries account is a separate identity and the two are not linked.
How do updates work?
The auto-updater polls cloud.neozed.dev for your configured channel and applies updates on restart. You can opt out in settings.
Can I bring my own AI keys?
Yes. Configure an OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Mistral, xAI, OpenRouter, or Vercel AI Gateway endpoint in settings.json and the editor will talk to your provider directly.
Is there a Windows build?
The Windows port tracks upstream and is available on the preview channel with caveats. See the platform page.
How do I report a security issue?
Do not file it publicly. See the support page for private disclosure.
